Fun Facts

I’m a biz builder because…

I love the freedom of exploring, failing, succeeding, learning, creating and contributing in my unique way, on purpose, with purpose; being my own boss is the coolest thing!

What I love most about what I do…

opportunities to engage in deep, meaningful conversations with students; facilitate their process of self-acceptance and exploration, and watch them realize the power they possess to create the lives they want to contribute their way.

Book faves…

LOVE books that deepen my understanding of the human journey. If I attempted to compile a list of titles you’d be scrolling for days. Without hesitation, though, the authors who have had the most profound effect on me – personally and professionally – are Parker J. Palmer, Leo Buscaglia, Barbara De Angelis and David Whyte.

The technology that changed things…

hands down, the smart phone. It helps me stay organized, and provides an outlet for play. It keeps me connected to my music, dance, books, podcasts, videos, etc. It’s the gadget of all gadgets!

Favorite wise words…

tons of quotes from Parker J. Palmer and from just about anyone who is unapologetically creative and doing their own thing, their way. Here are a couple of really special ones that I carry with me daily:

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. Leo Buscaglia

Vocation does not come from willfulness. It comes from listening. I must listen to my life and try to understand what it is truly about-quite apart from what I would like it to be about-or my life will never represent anything real in the world, no matter how earnest my intentions…..Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am. I must listen for the truths and values at the heart of my own identity, not the standards by which I must live-but the standards by which I cannot help but live if I am living my own life. – Parker J. Palmer

Yummy obsessions…

veggies (kale and okra are my faves), bacon, books, movies, super heroes, music, zumba, dance, abstract art, trees, nature and lots of color.

Highly recommend…

taking time to figure out your natural rhythm so you can design your life in a way that reflects and totally aligns with it – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and environmentally (spatially).

Currently listening to…

Sia, Pentatonix, 2 Cellos and the Vitamin String Quartet.

Joy secret…

spending my peak energy time (in the morning) taking care of myself, nurturing my spirit – a morning walk, journaling, some quiet and still time, some reading and setting my intention for how I want my day to unfold. Sometimes I’ll even watch cartoons.

Perspective on failure…

I’m totally open to it, invite it with open arms, I ain’t scared of it. When I try something and it doesn’t work, that’s one less thing I have to try. And, it opens the door to creativity. How could I not love that?

What I long for…

the long and flavorful life of a centenarian who has lived, loved, learned, explored, experimented, played, laughed, danced, sang, traveled, connected and served many as fully as possible; who has experienced abundance in all its forms and shared time, energy and resources, generously.

Who inspires me…

anyone wildly creative and who boldly, bravely and unapologetically lives and contributes their way, on their own terms.

What I value most…

freedom, honesty, vulnerability, open and honest communication, authenticity, creativity, play, joy, exploration, imagination, deep and abiding love, inner peace, my spiritual expansion, harmony and nature.

Treasured advice…

from my pops: “Enjoy your life!”

What makes my heart giggle…

spending each day engaged in activities, service and contributions that bring me the most joy.

Best advice to students (anyone)…

don’t waste time loitering in mediocrity, meaninglessness and monotony; see life as a cool adventure; be an active and enthusiastic participant, not a critical, unengaged spectator.

Favorite pasttimes…

deep, rich conversations; avid reader; hanging out in nature – love me some trees; going to the movies – there’s nothing like story telling on the big screen, the bigger, the better, love me some IMAX!

Biggest lessons learned…

i’m the author and hero of my story; and i’m the only one with the real power to change it. There’s really nothing to fear; it’s all an illusion. No one can make me think, feel or do anything without my permission. Focus on what brings me the most joy. Forgiving others and myself is the big ol’ gift to myself that keeps on giving!
